Three Year Celebration of CommonGround Networking Party!

Wow! Three years of amazing support, networking, and team building which has been one of my most favorite accomplishments in Second Life. Ethelred and I have been co-hosts of this community event, but there is a whole team of supporters that make it happen every month and more join us each time around. Just so grateful and thrilled to have the opportunity to create party themes that people enjoy and create connections via colors and common experiences. Thank you all so very much!

Please join us for a Nonprofit Commons Community Celebration at CommonGround at Aloft Nonprofit Commons with the Return of Ricken Flow as our amazing DJ!

Our party theme is “Summer of Love – Tie Dyes and Togetherness” and our theme colors are stunning rainbows and 60′s inspired hues! Dress up and join the party!

What is CommonGround? It is more than a party!

Enjoy networking and dancing among other nonprofits and supporters! Learn more about what nonprofits, educators, humanitarians, scientists, and artists accomplish in Second Life at the Nonprofit Commons at this fun and informative event.

CommonGround is a monthly event that is a special community celebration which is color themed and full of energy on the first Thursday of the month from 5 to 7 PM SLT!

The location of the party is here : http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Aloft%20Nonprofit%20Commons/64/78/25 .  See you there!

Grand Opening of the Treasured Isle Mall

We had the Grand Opening of the Treasured Isle Mall with live music and dj dancing produced by Merc and Jarhead! It was a happy affair with oldtime pals and new friends. My shop, “hue are you?” was blessed with visitors and sales. Thank you all for your support and kindness!
Afterwards, I rested in my new chair and chatted with my friends. So much more color to come!

Real World Impacts from the Virtual World

The MacArthur Foundation, the USC Network Culture Project and Global Kids sponsored “Real World Impacts from the Virtual World” in Second Life. I attended the event that happened on three important sims: Foundations Sim, Justice Commons, and Aloft Nonprofit Commons.
Lots of my friends from the Nonprofit Commons were on inspirational panels. We heard from the USC Network Culture Project awardees on Real World Impact from the Public Good Community Challenge. Enjoyed a panel on Alliance Building in Virtual Worlds. Listened to a discussion on Using Virtual Worlds for Learning. Which inspired the “Birds-of-a-feather” Breakout Sessions; I attended one about online learning in Second Life. And, then we had a social mixer and dance.
Rik Panganiban of Global Kids, that’s the cute dragon, did a fantastic job of promoting this event and making everyone feel like they were part of a bigger picture. http://spotlight.macfound.org

Don’t dream it, be it! Rocky Horror Picture Show at NPC Plush

As part of the Nonprofit Commons Halloween Party, we had three movies at Plush to watch. Buffy and I were keen to watch Rocky Horror so that we could sing along while swinging on my swing. After getting a little seasick, I passed out the Dr. Frank N. Furter pearls and had a seat as others joined the chorus. Buffy was wearing the custom skin I made for her.

Rocky Horror is such a classic and I used to watch it at The Clinton starting in 1984. The Clinton Street Theater has been showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show every Saturday night since April 1978. (It is the longest running RHPS in the world!)

I always found the message of Rocky Horror clear even if it was covered in fishnet stockings. “Don’t Dream It, Be It!”

Grayscale – Common Ground @ NPC

The color for this week’s theme was Grayscale for the Common Ground Party. Buffy blews us away with her awesome grayscale ball that she could even dance it!

Here are the upcoming color themes for 2008: Sept 4 – Black, Sept 11 – White, Sept 18 – Green, Sept 25 – Teal, Oct 2 – Blue, Oct 9 – Purple, Oct 16 – Violet, Oct 23 – Magenta, Oct 30 – Red, Nov 6 – Orange, Nov 13 – Yellow, Nov 20 – Gold, Nov 27 – Brown, Dec 4 – Midnight, Dec 11 – Sunrise, Dec 18 – Midday, Dec 25 – Sunset. You don’t have to dress up, but it is fun to!
